BIO

I grew up in Henderson NV with my parents and two siblings. I attended Green Valley High School, then went to college in Reno at the University of Nevada, Reno. Go Pack! I studied Nutritional Science and earned my RD. I left Reno to attend graduate school at University of North Texas, in Denton, TX. UNT is where I earned my master’s in healthcare administration and doctorate in Medical Sociology. After graduation, I moved back to Reno. I started a family with my husband; we have two daughters. When I am not working, I serve my community by volunteering and advocating for women and children.

Tell us about your career journey.

I worked at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. I started as a dishwasher, then worked my way onto the transformational health team under Katie Grimm and Lisa Pistone. I enjoyed process improvement and healthcare administration, so I left to study Healthcare Administration at University of North Texas. While in North Texas, I worked at Texas Health Resources and a stand-alone ER. I later earned my doctorate in Medical Sociology studying how electronic health literacy impacts patient satisfaction scores. I moved back to Reno, NV and worked at Renown Health as a Senior Trainer (Hometown Health). I left Renown and worked at Silver State ACO as their Director of Analytics and then Compliance Officer. I also worked briefly at Nevada Rural Hospital Partners with their quality team. During that experience, I earned my FACHE, FHIMSS, and Compliance certifications. I also published more research and have presented it at numerous conferences. Currently, I am the Compliance & HIPAA Privacy Officer for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine.

Why did you join ACHE and how long have you been a member?

I have been a member since 2010. I started at the North Texas chapter and when I moved I went to Nevada Chapter. I joined ACHE because I wanted to meet my peers.

What would you tell other professionals who have not joined ACHE as to the benefits of membership?

Great opportunities for mentorship, and networking.

What would your words of encouragement be to early careerists about pursuing healthcare leadership positions given the ever-changing healthcare environment?

Be flexible and willing to learn. You need to be able to pivot.
